In Japan, commercial service of PHS was started in 1995.

Back at that time, the usage of voice communication was the main steam. To carry out data communication, using DTMF relay method is used to help convert voice like modem on analog telephone circuit to data.

After that, with the prevalence of Internet, data communication adopted new technology. PIAFS and advanced PHS began to correspond to high-speed data communication. This tide is pushed even forward with XGP now.

In addition, PHS is also applied in telemeter linking system for remote information collection such as vending machine’s inventory control, gas meter reader, sewer pump supervision and car navigation system.

The PHS diversifies our choices while adapting itself to the need of our life. This trend will continue evolving in future.
