On the BWG meeting held on Oct. 29, Mr. Satoh, chairman of BWG introduced the working group’s activities report and activity plan of BWG and answered relevant questions from attending members.

Activity Report of Fiscal Year 2007
  • BWG meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2008.
  • Execution of XGP promotion activities to visitors to XGP booth in ITU Telecom Asia 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand in September 2008.


Activity Plan of Fiscal Year 2008
  • XGP will start its field trial in Tokyo in April 2009 and official operation in Tokyo in October 2009.
  • We have also planned to attend Telecom Asia in September in Bangkok, Thailand.


Industrial Trend
  • Trend regarding WILLCOM’s preparation to introduce XGP
  • Positive trend regarding Chinese telecom industry’s recognition of PHS and XGP
  • Trend regarding WiMAX and LTE’s development as wireless broadband methods on Chinese market


Requested promotion activities by PHS MoU Group
  • The determination and adoption of an official XGP specification to establish its predominant advantage over WiMAX and LTE in competition (TWG activity)
  • To promote its advantage in transmission speed and mobility and to promote its unique technological character
  • Preparation to support with trial data and other technical information


Technical Review and Establishment for the Specifications (1/2)
  • Promotion regarding specification standardization
  • Standardize Air Interface only at present
  • Establish and improve network specification in future. Meanwhile, corresponding to request from members of PHS MoU Group, it is necessary to update the current specification.


Technical Review and Establishment for the Specifications (2/2)
  • Discussion of roaming service and inter-operability
  • Definition by the standard specification
  • Draft of operational rules and guideline


IPR Issues
  • It is expected that inquiries regarding XGP-related IPR will increase in the development of promotion activities.
  • It is requested that the method to cope with IPR as a general or specified issue shall be prepared and decided.
