Besides keeping providing the market convenient information appliances such as family telephone “Ru.Ru.Ru”, personal fax “OTAKKUSU” and TV door phone, Panasonic Communications Co., Ltd. (here in after as Panasonic Communications) recently released a conference speaker phone to be used in places without normal circuits on March 29, 2007. The conference speaker phone corresponds to W-SIM, a miniature telecom module developed by WILLCOM, Inc (here in after as WILLCOM).

Today we visited Panasonic Communications’ advertisement group, in hope to get more information on the conference speaker phone and its correspondence to W-SIM.

• Development Process
  
  Q: How do you come up with the idea to develop the conference speaker phone?
  
  

  Since KX-TS730JPS, another model of conference speaker phone of us which can only be applied to circuit environment, is released in November, 2005, many favorable feedbacks are received.
  
  Under this circumstance, some of our users suggested that many meeting rooms are not furbished with circuit, although speaker phones are still preferred to be used.
  
  Corresponding to this demand, we developed KX-TS745JP, of which, W-SIM, a miniature telecom module by WILLCOM is adapted in and appliance in wireless environment is realized.
  
  Q: What has made you decide to use W-SIM?
  
  

  We considered two facts: its convenience and its cost. Firstly, we have users’ demand for conference speaker phone in wireless environment. Secondly, our clients hope to carry out long-time conference on phone without costing too much. By studying users’ needs, we finally decided to develop product corresponding to WILLCOM’s miniature telecom module, W-SIM. It is superior on two points: freedom for phone design enabled by an extra-mini sized device, and flat rate service.

  Q: What characteristics does this revolutionary product have?
  
  There’re four major features of the product.
  
  

  Firstly, audio conference can be carried out in wireless environment. That is, even if there’s no general phone line, since the phone corresponds to WILLCOM’s miniature telecom module, W-SIM, the conference can be held as long as there is access to a power supply outlet. Hence, the application of the phone is markedly widened. In addition, by taking advantage of WILLCOM’s flat-rate service, remote audio conference can be carried out without minding on the length of communication time and its cost.
  
  Secondly, the product is carrying a SD card slot. When an SD-card is inserted, recording of audio information on conference is realized and reviewing meeting contents after the conference becomes possible. The product currently supports SD memory card up to 2G. This capacity allows constant recording for 137 hours.
  
  Thirdly, to guarantee clear voice even in big meeting room with many people, we also released external microphone for wide range sound collection, KX-TCA174JP, which is sold separately, but can be attached to the main body of the speaker phone easily.
  
  Finally, four pairs of microphones are installed at the four corners of the main body. Each pair has two different microphones which can tell the voice of a major speaker from the rest noises around. This greatly reduces the forwarding distance of sounds from the speaker and guarantees 360 degree high-quality sound collection. In addition, by carrying for pairs of microphones and an echo canceller, the deterioration of sound quality is suppressed, and clear sound collection under real meeting environment is realized.
  
  

In Japan, there are many solution cases by utilizing PHS network like this. Among them, W-SIM is creating various ways for enterprises to solve their problems which can’t be solved before.
