PHS Packet Communication Trial Ceremony in Qingdao, China

     With the commencement of the PHS packet communication commercial trial by Qingdao Netcom (QN) from this July, "PHS Evolution to the Next Generation and Packet Mode First Application Ceremony" sponsored by Lucent Technologies China (LTC) and supported by Kyocera Corporation (Kyocera) was held on August 25 (Thu.), 2005 at the hotel in Qingdao city and over 100 PHS related people attended from both Chinese and Japanese equipment vendors, software developers etc. in addition to many those from China Netcom (CN).

     In the opening guest speech time, Shandong Netcom Vice President Mr. Wang-luYang, Dalian Netcom Vice President Ms. Sun Min , LTC CEO Mr. Shen XinPing and Kyocera Wireless Access Group General Manager Mr. Takahisa Yamamoto expressed their expectations to the PHS packet communication and then each speaker from eight equipment vendors, software developers explained about the services and the users' merits to be available by packetizing the PHS in detail together with demonstrations. Main applications introduced were platforms for downloading service (wallpaper, melody call), chat, remote surveillance, location information service browser, Java game, billing etc.

     Further, the PHS MoU Group Secretary General Mr. Sean Sugiura introduced the advantageous points of the PHS technology compared with other systems, examples of the PHS packet service in Japan etc. and the CN people were listening to that interestedly.
