"Relief and Safety" are indispensable for human life environments in every era. KATO-DENKI is trying to achieve this "Relief and Safety" as its corporate policy. We would like to create a safe and comfortable community to provide relief for the human life with our security system which can secure the sympathy and reliance of the community. We are also hoping to provide children in the next generation with comfortable community environments in which they can live safely.

     KATO-DENKI launched the auto security system "Hornet" and "Viper" in 1993. Hornet auto security system was recommended by the Japan Crime Prevention Association as an effective crime prevention apparatus and has widely been adopted in police vehicles, armored vehicles for cash etc.. KATO-DENKI's high customer reliance security systems have been very successful in grabbing the top market share for the last 10 consecutive years.

     Technology accumulation has been one of our important themes, especially when developing the high-precision double guard shock sensor. We have continuously improved the reliability of the shock sensor through market research and testing, before finally developed an error-free shock sensor with patented technology.

     Furthermore, we have developed the telematics (tele-informatics) auto security system "TERRA^TM" jointly with WILLCOM, Inc. (former DDI POCKET, Inc.) and launched in 2000. "TERRA^TM" is the system enabling real-time notification of the vehicle's unusual situation using the PHS wireless communication interface.

     Its two-way telematic communication capability assures vehicle owner's relief because the vehicle's situation can be monitored at distant place. Moreover, the vehicle's precise location can be displayed on the map through the access of PC or mobile phone for easy confirmation.

     There was a case where a stolen vehicle equipped with "TERRA^TM" successfully tracked down the location of the stolen vehicle and contributed to the arrest of the criminal group behind this.

     This PHS wireless communication system based technology can be applied not only to the vehicle, but also as an emergency call and location information service for personal use. We are currently developing the human version of "TERRA^TM" and it is expected to be launched in 2005 winter. Same as the vehicle version of "TERRA^TM", the PHS wireless communication network will be used and the biggest advantage for PHS is that it will not post any threats to health or medical instrument because the PHSfs radio power emission level is comparatively weak.

     This human version of "TERRA^TM" is a safe and user friendly device suitable for children and elderly. Its excellent communication quality and light-weighted compact design (approx. 30x50x15 mm, 30g) enables users to carry and use it with ease.

     In addition, this system could be implemented at school, in which it can record and monitor children's time of arriving and leaving school. By incorporating security system in personal lifestyle, people can be more secure and relief in their lives with instant location access and communication capability, and the future development and potential for "TERRA^TM" is unlimited.

     Recently, mass media were reporting the news of the promising young people have become the victims of crime such as schoolchild kidnapping, murder etc.. KATO-DENKI has been active in fighting vehicle crimes and we are hoping to provide our technology which can contribute to stamp out all kinds of crimes based on our previous results and experiences.
