SANYOfs Policy to the new PHS Technology Development
SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) has been considering the advanced PHS technology up to now. At this 18th PHS MoU Group General Meeting, Ifd like to introduce the new services which will become available for the PHS users if the advanced technology which is under development by Sanyo is applied to the present voice, circuit-switched data and packet data communications service each.

Advanced Technologies for Voice Communications Service
By applying the advanced technology to the present voice communications service, an improvement of the user capacity or area expansion and mobility capacity etc. can be expected.
To be concrete, user capacity improvement will become available by half-rate technology, area expansion and mobility capacity improvement by newly developed modulation system gBPSKh respectively.
However, in order to conform to their specifications, a new voice codec g16 kbps ADPCMh which is under development by SANYO will be necessary for both.
Advanced Technologies for Circuit-Switched Data Communications Service
Further, as an advanced PHS technology is being developed, further improvement of the frequency efficiency by new modulation system (8PSK, 16QAM) will become available for the present circuit-switched data communications service as well.
Present modulation system (QPSK) enables 2 bits per 1 symbol data transmission, however, 3 bits per 1 symbol data transmission by 8PSK and 4 bits per 1 symbol by 16QAM will become available respectively.
Advanced Technologies for Packet Data Communications Servic
Further speed-up of packet data communications service will become available with advanced technologies.
New modulation system, 32QAM and 64QAM which Ifm going to explain here are to be included into such advanced technologies. 5 bits per 1 symbol data transmission by 32QAM and 6 bits per 1 symbol by 64QAM will become available respectively.
Others
Further, as for the PHSfs future issues, SANYO understands that the interference with an adjacent 3G system will become an important one.
Especially, PHSfs spurious signal leakage and the sensitivity suppression will need to be taken care of.
If an advanced PHS technology which is under development by SANYO is applied, an improvement of the various services will become available in the coexistence of the 3G system and it will also bring a new potentiality (market) for the future PHS as well.
