ABIT PHS Chipset

ABIT Corporation (ABIT) was founded in 1985 and is mainly developing the chipsets based on the PHS technology. The company is composed of three divisions, Network, PHS Chipset (Silicon) and Wireless and the PHS technology covers all these divisions. Since the PHS development was started in 1990, ABIT has developed the PHS testing system in 1992, one chip baseband in 1998 and C-MOS PHS chipsets P1, 2 in 2003 and 2004 respectively which are described below in detail.
In P1, TDMA, packet, modulation, codec etc. and one RF functions were realized on one silicon chip. And in P2, higher technologies such as BPSK,8PSK, slot-codec, slot-diversity etc. have become available further for 384 kbps high-speed data communications. ABIT is planning to develop the next P3, 4 PHS chipsets and now developing one chip 64QAM, multi-RF and voice codec for P3 to achieve the data speed faster than 1 Mbps by 2007. In order to complete such development successfully, ABIT is very much concerned about the technological activities of the PHS MoU.

With regard to the PHS technologies, ABIT is trying to develop high-speed and high quality chipset with MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) and smart antenna system utilizing the modulation systems, OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), Turbo-coding, RECMIM and so on.
ABIT also developed the IP/PHS BLDE connecting the current copper wires with IP backbone networks. It was tested with 12,000 CSs (Cell Stations) of the system control network in Hiroshima, Japan. In addition to the voice and data communications, ABIT proposed the crime prevention and security system for children and old people as an application of the PHS technology. With a small, low cost and low power consumption PHS chipset attached to the school bag etc., such ad hoc communication system can be realized by utilizing the PHS repeater etc.
