Last October, new DDI POCKET, Inc. was born with an American investment firm The Carlyle Group as its largest shareholder. With an independence from the KDDI Group, DDI POCKET will take a positive attitude toward the speed up of the data communications, an adoption of IP to the network etc. to promote the PHS business. Further, the company name will be changed from DDI POCKET to WILLCOM on February 2, 2005, and with this, the business domain will also be expanded to realize the new wireless communications service.


Company Name Change on February 2, 2005

     The company name DDI POCKET, Inc. will be changed to WILLCOM, Inc. on February 2, 2005. This new name represents DDI POCKETfs earnest wish to be selected by customers with a will (WILL) as only one company having an advanced network gWireless IP Local Looph and to realize the wealthy future (WILL) through wireless COMmunications. With an independence from the KDDI Group, DDI POCKET will greatly shift the PHS strategy from past greduction and balanceh and gprofit-orientedh type to ggrowth-orientedh type.
     Concrete measures to be taken are (1) Further Speed up of the Mobile Data Communications, (2) Aggressive Provision of Voice Service utilizing the PHSfs Advantages, (3) Shift to the Growth-oriented Company and (4) Wide Development of the Partnership.


Establishment of gWireless IP Local Looph

     DDI POCKET will introduce highly advanced Cell Stations (CSs) and promote an adoption of IP to the backbone network from now on. High speed and multi-channel service can be realized by upgrading the CSs and the flat-rate/low-priced service by an adoption of IP to the backbone network, respectively.
     Further, DDI POCKET will promote the establishment of a network independent of NTT(Fixed line telephone operator in Japan) by installing the bypass equipment ITX in NTTfs telephone exchange offices.
     By utilizing the PHSfs original advantages, DDI POCKET will positively be providing the service which only DDI POCKET having already approx. 160,000 CSs nationwide can do.



(1)Further Speed up of the Mobile Data Communications

     For the moment DDI POCKET will provide the customers with high-speed flat-rate data communications service by enhancing a brand of its wireless data communications gAirHhh.
     Within 2004, advanced high-speed data communications service will become available at 256 kbps by bundling 8 channels of 32 kbps.
     Further, the compression server to improve the perceived data speed to the users will be with much higher functions.
     By increasing the compression rate from former approx. 2 times to 4-10 times, perceived data speed will be improved extremely. Even 1 Mbps ADSL class perceived speed would be enough for gAirHhh service. DDI POCKET is planning to renew gAirHhh totally including the acceleration pack with this compression service as the new WILLCOMfs main service.

(2) Provision of Voice Service utilizing the PHSfs Advantages

     By utilizing the PHSfs original advantages of low system cost and low radio power emission, new WILLCOM will positively promote the voice service as well. The voice service has already been used in over approx. 1,200 hospitals in Japan with their high evaluation of its low radio power emission. As far as the low SAR (Specific Absorption Ratio) and reasonable pricing are concerned, DDI POCKET is planning to improve its productsf usability as further greliableh and gsafeh wireless telephone for not only medical institutions but also from young children to elderly person. Further, it is considering to improve both the perceived speed of the browser phone service gAirHh PHONEh etc. and its usability by utilizing the network potentiality for being able to provide the flat-rate full Internet service for a handset terminal.

(3) Shift to the Growth-oriented Company

     As above, DDI POCKET will shift to the balanced growth-oriented company of both data and voice services utilizing the PHSfs original advantages.

     Further, with an independence from the KDDI Group, DDI POCKET will positively try to find the new partnership independent from the capital relations. It will promote the WILLCOM service to more wide class of customers by making an alliance with ASPs (Application Service Providers) and SIers (System Integrators) who are in need of the mobile network.
     By utilizing the PHSfs original advantages to the maximum, new WILLCOM will aim to establish its own position as only one company having an advanced network gWireless IP Local Looph .
