FUJITSU LIMITED has announced that, starting October 2002, it launched mobile data service "mobile+" realizing the total mobile communication environment based on the PHS network and the PHS communication cards.

This was added to the menu of the IP-VPN (*1) service "FENICS (Fujitsu EnhaNced Information and Communication Service) Business IP Network" which has already been used by more than 1,000 corporate users as their intra-company network. This provides packet data communications at up to 128 kbps utilizing the PHS data service, "Wireless IP connection service", by DDI POCKET, Inc.

Frequency and importance of the mobile access to an intranet from outside of the office is increasing as an introduction of the SFA (*2) and preparation for the mobile communication environment recently penetrated into companies. This service enables its users to enjoy mobile communications without a concern of the usage fee due to its flat-rate system regardless of the time, place and data quantity.

Service Advantages

1. Realization of the total mobile communications environment
This service can realize the total mobile communication environment including the PHS network and the communication cards, in addition to the system environment such as authentication server necessary for the mobile access to an intranet.

2. Flat-rate continuous connection system at up to 128 Kbps
The flat-rate gives a continuous connection system regardless of the time, place and data quantity. This is different from the existing plan, which charges by the quantity of data. This system provides a comfortable high-speed data transmission environment at up to 128 kbps.

FUJITSU and Kanebo, Ltd. (one of the biggest cosmetics companies in Japan) jointly developed "BC(*3) Knowledge System" utilizing "mobile+" service and FUJITSU's Pocket LOOX (Microsoft Pocket PC2002TM installed) base PDA (Personal Dta Assistant) "BIT" (Beauty counselor Information Tool) which enables Kanebo's 7,000 Beauty Counselors ("BCs") working throughout Japan to share current topics, useful experience, sales know-how, sales activity information etc.

"BC Knowledge System" can be accessed by "BIT" with CF (Compact Flash) card type PHS PS (Personal Station) inserted into it.

After trial service, official service of this system started on October 1, 2002 throughout Japan.

By this system, various kinds of multi-media content, for example, current topics, useful experience, sales know-how, sales activity information etc. will become possible to be delivered from each BC to others more directly, quickly and timely.

Reinforced, quick and accurate information and knowledge management can strongly support BC's sales activity to increase the sales.
