PHS Data Communications Functions Widely Used for Portable Information Terminals
New products that endow the WorkPad family of personal digital assistants (PDAs) with PHS data communications functions were released.
- Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. (KME) started sales of data communications cable "KX-HA10" for connecting
KME's hybrid PHS terminal H" "KX-PH35S" and IBM's PDA "WorkPad c3" with PalmOS or PalmVx.
Without using a communications unit sold separately, the data communications cable "KX-HA10" enables 19.2 kbit/s data communications,
while simplifying operations and improving the external appearance.
- IBM Japan Co., Ltd. commenced sales of WorkPad 31J, which has a PHS unit built in to the WorkPad 31J.
31J users can easily browse websites and send/receive e-mails, without the use of cables or cellular/PHS phones.
Consumers are allowed to use the PDA in rooms or places without telephones, resulting in improved mobility.
