Following is the organizational structure and the latest activities of the PHS MoU Group (Chairman: Dr. Hitomi Murakami, Vice-chairmen: Mr. Brendan MacManus and Mr. Masayoshi Wakao)


* General Meeting
The general meeting is held twice a year. At the last meeting, held in Tokyo on December 18th 1998, the budget plan for this year was presented and discussed. July's meeting took place in Sydney Australia, and was followed by a product exhibition. The proceedings from the meeting in Sydney are available on our website at www.phsmou.org

* Steering Committee
At present, 20 members are registered members of the Steering Committee (Chairman: Dr. Hitomi Murakami). The Steering has been discussing the Group's strategy, long term plan, important management issues, overseeing the activities of the working groups, and advising on the daily activities of the working groups and the secretariat.

* Working Group (WG)
The Working Groups are in charge of substantial activities of the Group, and in total five WGs are organized in the Group.
1. Technical Working Group (TWG)
The Technical Working Group (Chairman: Mr. Takuo Kashiwamura) has been working on the technical aspects of PHS, and has 10 Sub Working Groups (SWGs) in total. The specifications are published as the PHS MoU Specifications and Technical Reports, which are also available to the public.
They have recently published the network-network interface of the PHS-UUS (User-to-User Signal) service, and are working on (a) call forwarding and call barring supplementary service, (b) ISDN interface for the PHS-WLL system, (c) private PHS system, and so on.
2. Business Working Group (BWG)
The Business Working Group is working on the market/user needs of PHS, and has in total of four SWGs.
They are working mainly on PHS-WLL, private PHS systems, the public PHS system and the new digital cordless telephone market.
3. Promotion Working Group (PWG)
The Promotion Working Group (Chairman: Mr. Yoji Naito) is working on promotional activities, such as organizing/participating symposium/exhibition, publishing the newsletter, providing information in the website, etc. The five SWGs work in respective promotional activities.
One of their priority activities is to provide more information on PHS over the currently dynamically improved web site, which is implemented by the "Web Site and PR Committee". The web site provides a variety of information on PHS, such as the latest news and magazine articles, presentation documents from symposiums, press releases, etc.
4. Next Generation PHS Study Working Group (NWG)
The Next Generation PHS Study Working Group (Chairman: Mr. Mitsuaki Ishikura) is working on new concepts surrounding the next generation PHS system as a family of IMT-2000.
Its chairman presented the latest study report to the MoU members at the General Meeting on December 18. For information on distributed materials, please contact the Secretariat.
5. IPR Working Group
The IPR Working Group (Chairman: Mr. Masayoshi Wakao) is in charge of the IPR (Industrial Property Right) related to PHS. They are currently in recess.

* Secretariat
The Secretariat (Secretary General: Mr. Yoshio Iwayama) continues to perform secretarial work of the Group, maintain documents and conduct general affairs of the Group.
