Forum of the Americas Kicks Off
New PHS Forum of the Americas Formed at CommunicAsia
To help promote the benefits of PHS technology in South, Central and North America, several wireless companies announced the formation of the PHS Forum of the Americas, under the full endorsement of the PHS MoU Group during the CommunicAsia 98 show in Singapore, June 2 ~ 5, 1998.
ADC Wireless Systems, ArrayComm, ECI Telecom, Kyocera Corporation, Market Tel 48 C.A., Nichimen, Nippon Motorola, UTStarcom and Zetax are a few of the companies that have become charter members of the PHS Forum of the Americas. All of the companies involved with the Forum have significant contracts and field trials underway in various South, Central and North American countries.
The Forum will meet on a regular basis to coordinate efforts related to PHS standards definition, promotion of the technology within South, Central and North America, determine approaches to spectrum allocation and regulatory issues, and provide support for field trial and commercial system testing.
In addition to the PHS MoU Group, this is the fourth PHS Forum to be launched since the introduction of PHS in Japan in 1995. PHS Forums also exist in Australia, Indonesia and India. The purpose of the Forums is to provide more regionally focused promotion of PHS working closely with the larger, international PHS MoU Group. Any company in the PHS business and interested in the market of the Americas is welcome to join the Forum.
The PHS Forum of the Americas was officially greeted with a Kagami Biraki Sake ceremony Tuesday, June 2nd at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. PHS industry leaders Yoji Naito, Promotion Chairman of the PHS MoU Group; Yoshiki Chika, General Manager, DDI Tokyo Pocket Telephone, Inc.; and Martin Cooper, Chairman and Founder of ArrayComm, Inc. addressed the crowd on the status of PHS and plans for the future. More than 100 people, including many members of the press, were on hand to welcome in the newest member of the PHS community.
