PHS Key to Corporate Mobility
There has been a sharp increase in demand for the PHS Inter-office Communication System, which is one of the business applications for PHS.
This system consists of Personal Stations (PSs), Cell Stations (CSs), and digital PBX equipment. The PBX equipment has dual functionality: switching system and CSs for PHS wireless capability.
There are two types of PHS Inter-office Communication System - Integrated systems, PBXs with built-in PHS functionality, and Add-on systems, which add a PHS Adapter to an already installed PBX base system to realize PHS capability for the entire corporate communication network.
Integrated PBX systems account for almost half of all PBX shipments in Japan. Over 70% of sales activities are based on them, according to one major PBX vendor in Japan. A full range of products is marketed to provide adequate network configuration according to the size and type of each business.
Enabling better communication quality, cutting overall communication costs, and better customer service and support are the factors most likely behind penetration of the PHS Inter-office communication system.
Personal Stations are used as PBX terminals inside the office, and can also be used as public PHS network terminals outside the office. Office building roaming service is available, enabling a Personal Station to be like an extension terminal in other office buildings.
With excellent data transmission capability, the system offers efficient image data handling. By integrating personal computer capability and PHS functionality, a wide variety of business applications, such as locating a Personal Station by its terminal number, and Short Message Service etc., become available.
Wireless systems mean cable-free offices, making changes to office layout much easier. Wireless systems also improve office appearance.
With public PHS service deployment around the world expected to grow, and with the concept of the single Personal Station for home, office and outdoor-use, demand for these systems will continue rising.
