PHS at Hong Kong IT EXPO '97


The PHS MoU Group, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Matsushita Communication, NEC and Oki with support from PHS International, joined the 8th Asian Information Technology Exhibition (IT EXPO’97) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from October 22 to 25, 1997.

IT EXPO, a yearly exhibition aimed at IT professionals in Asia was also held concurrently with Asia-Pacific Mobile Communications Symposium (AP MobCom ’97) both of which attracted many visitors interested in PHS and its high-speed data transmission capabilities and applications.
The recent launch of PHS for private mode use by Hongkong Telecom added to the success of the PHS stand, with many potential users visiting the booth to see live demonstrations. The home cordless phones are now available through Hongkong Telecom CSL outlets.
Latest PHS products, applications and services were exhibited including handsets, PABX’s, WLL, PHS/GSM dual mode handsets, wristwatch, and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s). Video transmission using 32 kbps data transmission was demonstrated, and the compactness and high quality of PHS equipment impressed both visitors and the media. The interest from VIP, Mr. Chung Shui Ming, member of the Hong Kong SAR Executive Council in the wristwatch PHS was widely reported the next morning in the press. The high interest from around the region was evident following the speech by Mr. Yoneda (PHS MoU Group) and Mr. Hamano (PHS International) at AP MobCom ’97.
A major success, there were nearly 90,000 visitors to IT EXPO ’97 and the PHS booth was one of the most visited booths, not only by visitors, but also the press, giving exposure across the media including TV, newspapers and magazines.
