Greetings from Chairman

- Dr. Hiroshi Ishikawa -

It is my great pleasure to announce the inauguration of the preparatory group for PHS MoU.
In Japan, the Personal Handy-phone System (PHS) service has already started, as of July 1 this year. As for overseas, I feel expectations growing for PHS as a standard for the Personal Communications System (PCS).
Also, overseas telecommunications administrations and regulators have been making inquiries and requests concerning the treatment of Industrial Property Rights (IPR) for PHS and interface specifications among various PHS-related equipment. It was for this reason that I felt the need to establish the PHS MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) Group as an organization comprising domestic and overseas PHS telecommunications businesses and PHS equipment/facilities manufacturers that would deal with inquiries and requests and that would promote the international diffusion of PHS.
Our first move in founding the PHS MoU Group was made on July 27, when the preparatory group was inaugurated. Presently, there are 39 businesses and four organizations from overseas and Japan participating in the group. We recently set up the IPR and the Interface working groups within this group to ready for the establishment of the PHS MoU Group.
In the future, I would like to invite more participants and, together with those members of this group, it is my duty as the founding chairman to make PHS available in many countries as possible.
